A Fargo man who attempted to run over a police officer who was trying to question him about an assault has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Forty-nine-year-old Jack Christensen reached a plea deal with prosecutors on several charges, including aggravated assault.

Authorities say Christensen struck 25-year-old officer Brent Malone with his van in a laundry parking lot in November. Malone was treated at a hospital for a significant injury but has since returned to work.

Malone wanted to question Christensen on allegations he stabbed a man and choked a woman. He was arrested following a six-hour standoff at a Fargo apartment.

KFGO radio reports that Christensen has a lengthy criminal background and was sentenced as a habitual offender.
