KXMC-TV reports that the pit is within half a mile of the town's water wells. Mountrail County Commissioner David Hynek says he's dumbfounded, and State's Attorney Wade Enget calls it a "clear violation" of common sense.
State Environmental Health Chief Dave Glatt (glawt) says the state Health Department is looking into the matter. He says the department should have been consulted in the first place.
