They're treated to lunch by Principal Vold at Happy Joe's.

You don’t have to be an all-star athlete or carry a 4.0 grade point average at Crookston High School to be recognized for the good person that you are.

The Pride of Pirates (POPS) tradition continues at CHS this school year, as this week a bunch of students in grades 7-12, nominated by their teachers, were the recipients of POPS awards for their positive actions during the first quarter of the 2013-14 school year.

The goal of  POPS is to recognize students  who have displayed the qualities deemed vital in the school's unwritten curriculum, qualities that include  positive communication skills, promptness, thoroughness, cooperation, respect and decency.

POPS nominees receive a letter home, a certificate, and are treated to lunch with the principal. Wednesday, Principal J.J. Vold and the first quarter POPS students took a bus to Happy Joe’s for lunch.

First quarter POPS recipients include Amanda Barrus, Emily Barrus, Sarah Bolar, Madison Broden, Jerrica Brundage, Logan Ellis, Hannah Emanuel, Mariah Frisk, Isabella Gatica, Aly Goelzer, Tommy Gonzalez, Tommy Gornowicz, Torrie Greer, Ben Halos, Daphne Butler, Shauna Hoeffner, Connor Januszewski, Samantha Learn, Tyler Leckie, Brooke Panzer, Andrew Perry, Logan Prudhomme, Julianne Ramirez, Bryan Sanchez, Jacinda Suarez, Shad Steer, Andre' Stewart, Adam Torres, and Amanda Trandem.
