Field of four will likely be narrowed

Told Monday evening by Police Chief Paul Biermaier that criminal background checks on the four city administrator hopefuls who interviewed last week for the job should be completed this week, members of the Crookston City Council have scheduled a Ways & Means Committee meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4 to further discuss the four who interviewed.

Vying for the job are Shannon Stassen, Brian Heck, Barbara Hoyhtya and Andrew Marquardt.

The goal is to have someone on the job by January 2014. It’s possible that the committee – comprised of the entire council and Mayor Dave Genereux – could narrow the field to two or even identify a sole finalist at the Nov. 4 meeting. But, meanwhile, council members continue to stress that they want to take their time before making a decision, and they haven’t ruled out potentially taking in-person trips to cities in which some or all of the interviewees have worked to get a better feel for how they are perceived elsewhere.

Interim City Administrator Pat Kelly told the Times after the interviews last week that he believes there is one and possibly two candidates that the council feels is potentially worthy of receiving a job offer.
