The state Legislature earlier this year approved a bill giving communities the option of allowing fireworks to be sold and used at the end of the year.

Devils Lake Mayor Dick Johnson tells KZZY radio that public sentiment in the city is strongly against the idea — and that carried weight with the City Commission this past week. No commissioners made a motion to bring up a proposed fireworks ordinance for a final vote.
