  • University of Minnesota Crookston women’s soccer freshman goalkeeper Lexie Gauger (Green Bay, Wis./Criminal Justice) was selected as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Goalie of the Week for her role in UMC’s win over Minnesota State University Moorhead and a tie at Northern State University.
Gauger recorded 13 saves, allowed only one goal and picked up her second career clean sheet as the Golden Eagles picked up four points on the road this past weekend. It was the first time in program history that the Golden Eagles have picked up two positive results on the road in the same weekend in NSIC play. UMC topped MSU Moorhead 2-1 in the battle for the Highway 75 Rivalry Rock on Saturday. The win was UMC’s fourth-ever win over the Dragons. UMC settled for a hard-fought 0-0 double overtime tie at Northern State Sunday.
Gauger is the first UMC player to earn NSIC Player of the Week honors for any sport for the 2013-14 athletic season so far this year. She is the first Golden Eagle athlete to earn a weekly award since Brittani Wiese earned NSIC Player of the Week for women’s basketball Feb. 4.
Gauger was joined in the weekly honors for NSIC soccer by NSIC Offensive Player of the Week Jessica Bowe from Minnesota State University, Mankato and NSIC Defensive Player of the Week Morgan LeFebvre from Winona State University.
The Golden Eagles will head to Upper Iowa University Fri., Oct. 18 and then Winona State University Sun., Oct. 20. The Golden Eagles are 3-7-2 in Head Coach Joe Alianiello’s second season as the University of Minnesota Crookston boss. Alianiello already has one more win than he had last season in his first season leading the ship. Gauger has started eight games in net for UMC as a freshman. She has a 1.15 goals against average, which is seventh in the league. Gauger has accumulated 55 saves and has 11 goals allowed on the season.
