Where do I even begin with this past season of my senior year of tennis!
Where do I even begin with this past season of my senior year of tennis! I have been playing tennis for Crookston since the 7th grade. Knowing that this is my last year playing for Crookston is sad, because tennis is one of my favorite sports to play.
Mike Geffere, Brian Follette and Sue Tiedemann have coached me through my years of tennis, and they have taught me a lot of things about tennis that I didn’t know. They were always there to tell me what I was doing wrong and what I should fix, and Mr. Follette always gave me useful tips. We have a great coaching staff at Crookston High School. I would love to thank them for all the time they put into coaching me and teaching me new things!
The girls who were on the varsity team this year were just a great group of girls, and I was glad that I got to spend my last year playing tennis with them! As a team we did well this season, and we competed hard at our matches. I know for a fact we’ve made many memories this past season with our team. I loved playing tennis with all these girls because we always got along, and we were a great team together. We bonded and that’s what you need to succeed in your team sports.
I am going to miss playing with my doubles partner, Leah Trostad. We have played together many times through my high school tennis career; I know that is going to be something that I will miss for sure. I am glad that my senior year for individuals, I got to play with Leah as a doubles team.
Tennis this year has probably been by far the best team sport I have been on. We all get along as a team, and we win or lose as a team. We cheer as a team, and that’s what teams need to be like. If you are a supportive team, you know you will be successful!
Sections this year we were seeded 4th as a team. We played Tuesday October 8th at Choice Fitness in Grand Forks where we faced the Roseau Rams and beat them 5-2. This moved us on to the semi-finals which was Friday October 11th at Choice Fitness. Here we faced Staples-Motley and lost 3-4 as a team, but there many good matches to watch. Staples is a very good team that advanced to State this year. I played in the individual tournament with Leah Trostad, and we were seeded 10th as a doubles team. Our first round we played Pequot Lakes 2nd doubles team and beat them 6-1, 6-4. That had moved us on to the quarter-final match, and we were matched up to play Staples-Motley number 1 doubles team. We lost to them 3-6, 4-6. It was a very tough match, but we kept fighting through to hopefully come out with a win. They were a very good doubles team, and they are also going to State as one of the doubles individual teams along with a Park Rapids doubles team.
I know I couldn’t have asked for a better senior year with this years girl’s tennis team. I had a blast and made lots of memories. I will miss playing tennis for Crookston High School. Thanks to everybody who made my high school tennis career successful and a blast!
