Dr. Allan Larson, Crookston, Minn. is among several Mayville State University alumni and friends who will be honored during Mayville State University’s 2013 homecoming festivities scheduled for October 11 through October 13 in Mayville, N.D.
Dr. Larson will be inducted into the Mayville State University Athletic Hall of Fame at a dinner scheduled for Friday, October 11 in the Mayville State Campus Center Luckasen Room. Socializing will begin at 5:00 p.m., and dinner starts at 6:00 p.m., followed by the program.
Other 2013 Athletic Hall of Fame inductees are Rodney Anderson, Lisbon, N.D.; Ron Ness, Moorhead, Minn.; and Cedric Weatherspoon, Minneapolis, Minn. Michael Sly will be honored posthumously. The MSU Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes people who excelled as athletes or coaches at Mayville State or who have gone above and beyond in support of Mayville State athletics.
Dr. Allan Larson grew up in Portland, N.D. and became a Mayville State Comet as a young boy. As a college student at Mayville State, he lettered in football in 1951, 1952, 1953, and 1954. He also earned letters in basketball in 1951-52, 1952-53, and 1953-54. During his senior year, in 1954-55, Allan was captain of the football team and was selected to the North Dakota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference all-conference football team. In addition, he was senior class president and treasurer of the Letterman’s Club. Larson graduated from Mayville State in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He earned a major in physical education and minors in business education and social studies. After a long career as a high school teacher, private businessman, and university teacher and administrator, Dr. Larson retired in 1997 as the Director of External Relations and Chief Development Officer at the University of Minnesota, Crookston.
