  • Women's soccer: Golden Eagles handed 2 losses by Cougars

  • The Golden Eagle women's soccer team was swept over the weekend in a 1-0 loss to Sioux Falls and a 3-0 loss to Southwest Minnesota State, both matches in Crookston.
    Minnesota Crookston falls to 2-7-1 on the season and 0-6-1 against Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opponents.
    The Golden Eagles travel to MSU Moorhead Saturday, Oct. 12 and Aberdeen, S.D. Sunday, Oct. 13 to face Northern State.
     
    UMC vs. SF
    It was a cold, wet and blustery day as the Sioux Falls Cougars took advantage of a goal with just over a minute remaining in the first half to come away with a 1-0 victory.
    Ciara Howerton found the back of the net off an assist from Rachel Mata at 43:25. Corrin Cook recorded the shutout for USF stopping two Golden Eagle shots on goal.
    Junior goalkeeper Drew Underdahl (Zumbro Falls, Minn.) recorded two saves for UMC.
     
    UMC vs. SMSU
    The 18th ranked Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs lived up to their ranking as they defeated UMC 3-0.
    The Mustangs got on the board at 16:28 when Autumn Hayes found the back of the net off an assist from Miranda Cadena. Kendahl Fisher put SMSU up 2-0 at 18:05 when she scored off an assist from Cadena. Hayes closed out the scoring at 63:12 when she scored off a penalty kick.
    Brienna Dehkes recorded the shutout with three saves. Underdahl recorded six saves for the Golden Eagles.
