Artist-in-residence is helping each class create a song.

Singer/songwriter Charlie Maguire is back in Crookston for a third year, passing his musical expertise onto Washington School first-graders, who will show what they learned in a performance on Thursday.

Maguire is here as part of the "artist in residence" program funded by a grant through the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council through the Arts and Cultural "Legacy" Heritage Fund, approved by Minnesota voters in 2008.

Thursday from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m., the first-graders will perform the songs Maguire is helping them create.
