The Gordon fire hall in southern Douglas County burned to the ground Thursday afternoon in a fast-moving fire, destroying all of the firefighting vehicles inside.
George Booth, town of Gordon constable, said the building is a total loss, as are at least six trucks inside, including pumpers and tankers and other emergency vehicles, including a snowmobile.
“It’s gone, it’s on the ground,” Booth said.
No one was hurt in the blaze, which broke out just after noon, he said.
Booth said it’s not clear how the fire started in the metal-sided building on Douglas County Highway Y. A thunderstorm with lightning hadn’t quite arrived in the area when Booth said he called the fire in.
Firefighters and trucks from Solon Springs, Minong, Barnes and other agencies were on the scene, Booth said.
"I have a lot of memories in that building,” he said.
Gordon is about 35 miles south of Superior along U.S. Highway 53.
