  • Sunday will be a great day to be a history buff in Crookston

  • RRV Sugarbeet Museum, Polk County Museum each hosting their biggest events of the year Sept. 8.

  • If you consider yourself a history buff, you may want to meander your way to Crookston's southeast edge on Sunday, where both the Polk County Museum and Red River Valley Sugarbeet Museum are hosting their biggest annual events.
    The RRV Sugarbeet Museum's 9th Annual Festival begins at 10:30 a.m. and continues until 4 p.m. The Polk County Historical Society's "Pioneer Day" at the museum commences at 11 a.m. and concludes at 5 p.m. Both events are free.
    RRV Sugarbeet Museum Festival
    Located at the former Crookston Implement building, the event features a roast pork dinner served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Vintage farm equipment that will be on display and demonstrated includes a Case 110 steam engine owned by Mark Knox, a 1957 Marbeet Harvester, and a Scott-Urschel Beet Harvester. Beets will be harvested with horses at 1:30 p.m., and beets will also be harvested with vintage machines. Wheat will be threshed with a steam engine, too.
    People-movers will be available, videos will be for sale, and many other items will be displayed.

    PCHS Pioneer Day
    The event at the museum opens at 11 a.m. with lunch, which includes homemade pies, exhibit tours and demonstrations, which will continue throughout the day.
    The Centennial Building will feature Dennis Tollerud & Friends at noon, and The O'Neil's at 1 p.m. The Celtic Session Band will play at 2 p.m. and, at 3 p.m. the Greater Crookston Area Men's Chorus directed by George French will sing in Hafslo Church. They'll be followed by the Minnkota 4 performing at 3:30 p.m.
    Activities that will take place throughout the event include the Sun, Country & You Petting Zoo, wood carving, blacksmithing, spinning wheel demonstrations and specialty foods like fry bread.
