  • A former Minot State University football player charged with attempted murder and simple assault after a scuffle with police officers allegedly beat an officer's head against a post while the officer was unconscious.
Jesse Ili is accused of beating two officers Friday after police responded to a report of suspected drug use in a parked vehicle. Four other team members were arrested on drug crimes. Two pleaded guilty on Tuesday. Ili has since been kicked off the team.
Ili told Judge Richard Hagar Tuesday that he's a nonviolent person without a criminal past, and defense attorney Jessie Lang said Ili "fully intends to respond" to the charges.
Prosecutor Rozanna Larson said Ili is a danger to society.
Hagar set Ili's bail at $200,000. He's due back in court Oct. 11.
