Crookston Times - Crookston, MN
  • Letter to the Editor: RiverView, Altru helped make Crookston Triathlon a success

  • Plans underway for next year's event.
    • email print
  •     Note to readers: The following letter was originally published in the Aug. 14 Times, but the author inadvertently omitted a couple of sponsors. At the author’s request, the Times is publishing a similar letter today.
Registration started back in mid April and we received our first registration in the first week of May.  Registration was pretty thin to start but as the event drew closer it really picked up with almost half the registrations coming in the last few weeks.  We were really looking to put on a fun, yet competitive event.  Riverview Health jumped on board to be the main sponsor for the Adult's Division and Altru Clinic followed for the Kid's Division.

Chief Tim Motherway and I worked to design the routes with extra caution as safety was the main concern.
Altru Clinic Kid's Division distances were:
            50 meter swim
            2.4 mile bike
            1.2 mile run
Riverview Health Adult's Division disances were:
            400 meter swim
            14 mile bike
            3.1 mile run (5k)

Thanks to Tim Moe who donated his time to run the timing system which was borrowed to us from the Crookston School District.
Thanks to all of the volunteers who showed up on Saturday morning to help run the event, especially Riverview Health who manned the registration table.  We couldn't have done it without you.
Gift boxes were given to each athlete as they finished.  Attached to them were surveys on how they liked the experience and how we can make it better.

The overwhelming reply was they enjoyed the event and will be looking forward to next year.  Which leads to my overall comment on the event, "Phew, the first one is in the books, now to start planning for next year."
During the event we were gathering information from the athletes and volunteers and will use all of their suggestions in improving next year's event.
We've already put in our order for the exact same weather for next year.  Our fingers are crossed.
