Liam Higginson spent the last two years working at UND as a graduate assistant athletic trainer
The University of Minnesota Crookston athletic department and Athletic Director Stephanie Helgeson announced the addition of Liam Higginson as assistant athletic trainer. Higginson joins the UMC staff from the University of North Dakota where he served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the UND women's soccer and softball teams the last two years.
"We are very excited to add Liam to our athletic training staff," Helgeson said. "Liam is very highly regarded from his time at the University of North Dakota and the Manitoba Soccer Association. We believe Liam will be a tremendous addition to the Golden Eagle family."
Higginson, originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario, earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology with a major in athletic therapy from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He is currently finishing his Master of Kinesiology degree from the University of North Dakota. In addition to spending the last two years working at UND as a graduate assistant athletic trainer, Higginson has also worked as a certified athletic therapist since 2011 for the Manitoba Soccer Association. In addition he served as an intern athletic trainer for the North Dakota football team in 2011 and worked as a student therapist for the University of Manitoba women's soccer team from 2009 to 2011.
"I am very excited to be working with the sports medicine staff at the University of Minnesota Crookston," Higginson said. "Since beginning my path to become an athletic trainer, I have always hoped to end up at an institution as esteemed as UMC. I am very excited to begin working with such a highly regarded athletics department. Go Golden Eagles!"
Higginson also taught classes as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of North Dakota for their department of physical education, exercise science and wellness. He is certified by the National Athletic Trainer Association-Board of Certification in the United States and is also a certified athletic therapist by the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association. In addition, Higginson is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
Higginson joins head athletic trainer Melanie Schulte and assistant athletic trainer Tyson Skillings as members of the UMC athletic training staff.
