David George Rognlie peacefully passed away Monday, July 29 2013 after a short battle with cancer.
David was born in Halstad, Minnesota, on November 26, 1934 to Lloyd and Edna Rognlie (née Davidson). He spent his childhood in Climax, Minnesota where he graduated from high school in 1952. He excelled in both academics and sports – basketball in particular- and was awarded an Ireland Lumber Scholarship to the University of North Dakota from which he received his BS in Electrical Engineering in 1956. In 1955, he married Marjorie Ann Letnes who preceded him in death in 1989.
David started his career with General Electric, then set off on his own and founded Blake Industries, Inc. in New Jersey, in the mid 1960s. As President of Blake Industries, he built a successful business in the manufacture, import and sale of precise scientific equipment which he ran until his death.
While business took David around the world, he kept homes in Bernardsville, New Jersey, New York City, Palm City, Florida, and Mentor, Minnesota. David was a longstanding member of The Mendham Golf and Tennis Club (Mendham, NJ) and The Harbour Ridge Yacht Club (Palm City, FL).
David is survived by his daughter Heidi and her husband, his grandson Axel, his companion of many years, Fern Letnes, his two sisters Mrs. Kay Kelly and Mrs. David (Lola) Monson, and many nieces, nephews, grand-nephews and cousins.
There will be a private burial at the Sand Hill Lutheran Church Cemetery in Climax, Minnesota. Please join the Rognlie family in a celebration of David's zest for living at the Corner Café in Climax on Saturday, August 17th from 3 to 8 p.m.
