  • Eleven canoes and kayaks manned by 17 people embarked on a canoe trip on the Red Lake River just east of Crookston Thursday morning.
The trip, organized by the Crookston Chamber & Visitors' Bureau to promote the river, included invitations to Chamber/CVB and City of Crookston staff, city council members, and CHEDA, UMC, and school district staff. It ended in Central Park around an hour later.
A similar, inaugural canoe trip took place last year, but this year's effort drew more than twice as many people.
Along the way Thursday morning, many different bird species were observed, as well as a muskrat and a few deer.
Canoeists/kayakers on Thursday included: Michelle and Trey Christopherson, Kathy and Jake Anderson, Kirsten Fagerlund, Sarah Reese, Shannon Stassen, Sean Rozell, Philip Barton, Sarah Derosier, Samantha Schear, Dan and Vicki Svedarsky, Tom Jorgens, Chris Winjuim, Jacob Egeland, and Alec Boike
If anyone would ever like to canoe or kayak the river contact Sargeant Student Center at the University of Minnesota Crookston at 281-8586 or 281-8507.
