  • Just three Crookston residents remain competing in the Birchmont Golf Tournament after Thursday's rounds at Bemidji Town & Country Club in Bemidji.
    In the Masters Division, Chuck Hiller defeated Gerry Douglas of Bemidji 5-4 to advance to the semifinals where he will take on Tom Hanson of Detroit Lakes.
    For the Junior Division, Charles Eickhof won 5-4 over Matthew Gregg of Bemidji and will face Gavin Loscheider of Grand Forks in the semifinals.
    In the President's Flight, Wyatt Hanson defeated Zach Rickers 2-1 in consolation play and will go up against Brandon Sletmoen of Hawley, who won the Long Drive Contest for the tournament, in the semifinals.
    Brady Heppner, also in the President's Flight, lost 5-3 to Chris Harris of Jamestown.
    In the Championship Flight, Michael Roedl, a redshirt freshman golfer at UMC, lost 4-3 to Bill Carlson of Fargo in the quarterfinals. UMC junior golfer Seth Heppner lost to Jim Foss of Roseau in the consolation bracket.
    Crookston native Tom Johnson lost to Ryan Maher of Bemidji in the Executive Chairman Flight.
