Seth Heppner lost his opening round match.

Michael Roedl, a redshirt freshman on the Minnesota Crookston golf team, won his first round match Wednesday in the Championship Flight of the 89th annual Birchmont Golf Tournament at Bemidji Town & Country Club in Bemidji.

Roedl, from Minneapolis, beat Devon Johnson of Minneapolis 4-2 and will face Bill Carlson of Fargo in the second round today.

Crookston native Seth Heppner, a junior with the UMC golf team, lost his opening round match 3-2 to AJ Oster of Ham Lake, Minn. Heppner faces Jim Foss of Roseau in the consolation bracket now.

In the President's Flight, Brady Heppner defeated Brandon Sletmoen of Hawley 5-4 and will take on Chris Harris of Jamestown, N.D. today in the quarterfinals. Wyatt Hanson lost to Joe Selle of Bemidji 2-1 in his first round match and will go against Zach Ricker of Bemidji in the consolation quarterfinals.

Crookston's Chuck Hiller defeated Edward LeBeau of Bemidji, no score was listed, in the first round of the Masters Division and will face Gerry Douglas of Bemidji in the quarterfinals.

Crookston native Tom Johnson, who currently resides in Chanhassen, Minn., faces Ryan Maher of Bemidji today in his first round match of the Executive Division, Chairman Flight.

In the Junior Division, Crookston's Charles Eickhof beat Eric Cann of International Falls 3-2 and will face Matthew Gregg of Bemidji in the quarterfinals. Dane Anderson lost 4-3 to Tyler Dunn of Omaha, Neb. and will take on Brady Wright of International Falls in the consolation quarterfinals.
