Qualifying wraps up today with 6 Crookston residents competing.

Seth Heppner, a junior on the Minnesota Crookston men's golf team and former Pirate, carded a 73 and is tied for eighth in the first round of qualifying for the 89th annual Birchmont Golf Tournament at Bemidji Town & Country Club in Bemidji.

There will be another round of qualifying today with the golfers broken up into flight based on their qualifying scores. The tournament then turns to match play and concludes Saturday.

Brady Heppner, Seth's younger brother, carded an 80 and tied for 45th, while Wyatt Hanson shot an 81 and tied for 47th. Both are a few shots back of the projected cut after the first round.

Charles Eickhof shot an 84 in the Junior Division 17 qualifying, while Dane Anderson posted an 87 as both are in position to make the championship flight.

Crookston's Chuck Hiller will compete in the Masters Division qualifying today.

Crookston native Tom Johnson, a Chanhassen, Minn. resident, shot an 87 in the first round of qualifying for the Executive Division.
