  • MOORHEAD, Minn. – A Glyndon man faces attempted murder charges following a domestic assault and stabbing early Saturday morning.
Moorhead police officers responded to a disturbance on 16th Avenue South around 2:30 a.m. There was a physical altercation between Angel Maldonado Jr., 24, of Glyndon, and his girlfriend. He allegedly threw a tire iron/car jack handle at her, puncturing her back.
Victor Martinez, 21, of Eagle Pass, Texas, intervened and Maldonado stabbed him at least three times in the torso with a serrated steak knife, according to the police report. Martinez was transported to Sanford Hospital by witnesses. He and Maldonado’s girlfriend underwent surgery following their “life-threatening” injuries.
“It was a very serious assault,” Moorhead police Lt. Tory Jacobson said.
Maldonado was allegedly knocked unconscious during the fight with Martinez, Jacobson said. He was under observation at the hospital.
Maldonado will face attempted murder charges pending a complaint to the Clay County Attorney’s Office.
