Zoo officials in Minot say a 460-pound male lion is doing well after receiving a root canal.
Roosevelt Park Zoo Director David Merritt tells the Minot Daily News that Kiota the lion fractured one of its prominent canine teeth and underwent dental surgery on Monday.
Merritt says the dental work on the big cat was a first at the zoo.
Officials say it took about eight people to heft the lion onto an operating table that was loaned to the zoo by a local hospital. The root canal only took about an hour.
Merritt called it a "roaring success."
