His attorney, David Ayers, says Sovis has completed 33 days of inpatient treatment at Hazelden.
A Dakota County District judge who pleaded guilty to drunken driving has asked Gov. Mark Dayton to grant him medical disability retirement.
Judge Michael Sovis was sentenced to two years' probation in Ramsey County District Court Wednesday. The 64-year-old judge was arrested Christmas Eve when he hit several parked cars in St. Paul. Court documents say his blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit for driving.
His attorney, David Ayers, says Sovis has completed 33 days of inpatient treatment at Hazelden. Ayers told the judge Sovis doesn't intend to go back to work as a district judge.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press (http://bit.ly/14SW5WW ) says Sovis has been on the bench since 1988.
