  • Girls' golf: Nicholls shoots 48 for 2nd at Pirate Invite

  • Pirate eighth grader Maddie Nicholls finished runner-up Monday at the Pirate Invitational with a 48 at Minakwa Golf Club. Crookston Gold finished third of six teams.
    Nicholls' 48 tied with Thief River Falls' Bailee Kolden but Kolden won a tiebreaker for medalist.
    Nicholls and Crookston Navy placed fifth.
    Freshman Leah Trostad led Crookston Navy with a 50, while seventh grader Ally Tiedemann and junior Abby Parr each shot a 55.
    The Pirates continue their busy week today at the Detroit Lakes Invitational. The East Grand Forks Invite is Wednesday, while the Thief River Falls Triangular is Thursday.
