  • A Minneapolis police SWAT team leader has been fired following his conviction for assaulting a man while off-duty at a bar in Andover.
David Clifford was found guilty of first-, third- and fifth-degree assault by a jury in Anoka County District Court last month. Jurors determined Clifford was not acting in self-defense when he punched 44-year-old Brian Vander Lee last June at Tanners Station.
The 48-year-old Clifford has been a Minneapolis police officer since 1993. He's a two-time recipient of the department's Medal of Valor. The St. Paul Pioneer Press (http://bit.ly/190WHwW ) says Clifford is scheduled to be sentenced July 11.
