  • After the legislative session comes the politicking.
Just a few hours after the four-month session wrapped up, Minnesota's top elected Democrats are scheduled to do a post-mortem on what lawmakers accomplished.
Tuesday's briefing by Gov. Mark Dayton, Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk (bahk) and House Speaker Paul Thissen (TEE'-sihn) is likely to tout changes in the tax system that will send more money to schools and spread some property tax relief. They'll also highlight Minnesota's historic vote legalizing gay marriage.
Republican leaders are setting out on a flyaround. They have criticized tax hikes projected to bring in more than $2 billion in new revenue as anti-competitive. They also complained of DFL moves to grant unionizing authority to some in-home day-care workers and personal care attendants to the elderly and disabled.
