The Pirate boys' tennis team will set out to end Thief River Falls' stronghold on Section 8A as the No. 2 seed in the section team tournament. The Prowlers will look to defend their nine-consecutive team titles as the No. 1 seed.
Both Crookston and Thief River Falls receive first round byes and will play both the semifinal and final rounds Tuesday, May 21 at Perham. The Pirates will face the winner of No. 3 East Grand Forks and No. 6 Park Rapids. The Prowlers get the winner of No. 4 Detroit Lakes and No. 5 Wadena-Deer Creek/Perham.
In the singles tournament, senior Sean Williams earned the No. 5 seed and will face Park Rapids junior Ian Wallace, the No. 12 seed, in the first round. Eighth grader Matt Garmen received the No. 10 seed and will take on Detroit Lakes junior Carlos Espinosa, the No. 7 seed, in the first round. Thief River Falls senior Logan Engelstad was awarded the top seed, while East Grand Forks junior Ty Misialek is the No. 2 seed.
In the doubles tournament, Crookston has two strong teams both receiving first round byes. Senior Travis Vatthauer and freshman Bobby Tiedemann are the No. 2 seed, while seniors Ethan Mercil and Cody Genereux are the No. 4 seed. Detroit Lakes brothers Isaac and Alex Fondrick are the top seeded team.
