The Pirate baseball team split a pair of games Thursday with an 8-7 win over Northern Freeze and a 6-4 loss to Red Lake County at Jim Karn Field.
Crookston is now 5-3 on the season and will travel to Bagley today for a game at 4:30 p.m.
Against Northern Freeze, sophomore Joey Koenig pitched four very good innings before Northern Freeze posted a four-run fifth inning and two more in the sixth for a 7-2 lead.
Junior Parker Epema and sophomore Aaron Hollcraft, who would record the win, came in to shut down Northern Freeze the rest of the way.
Crookston tied the game with a five-run seventh inning and won it in the bottom of the ninth as senior Alex Boone led off with a triple and senior Dylan Klatt hit the walk-off base hit with two outs that drove Boone home.
Hollcraft finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while senior Brandon Kresl was 2-for-5 with three RBI. Boone had the triple and three runs scored.
Against Red Lake County, Edlund pitched a complete game for Crookston, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and four walks. He was outdueled, however, by Lars Brevik, who allowed four earned runs on eight hits and three walks in seven innings of work. Brevik struck out eight.
Crookston led 4-3 after five innings but Red Lake County tied it in the sixth and scored two in the seventh for the win.
Kresl finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Epema was 2-for-3 and senior Kyle Proulx was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
Wyatt Casavan led Red Lake County, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
