McKaela Larson hit 5-for-7 with 8 RBIs.

The Pirate softball team earned its second victory of the season Thursday 21-19 in game two of a doubleheader with Roseau in Crookston at Donnie Lauf Field. The Rams took game one 21-12.

Sophomore Danica Brekken pitched all seven innings in the game two win, allowing 19 runs on 20 hits and just three walks.

Senior McKaela Larson was brilliant, going 5-for-7 on the day with a home run and eight RBIs. Senior Kaylee Desrosier had a homer in the first game.

The Pirates, now 2-6 on the season will look to start a winning streak today when they host Grand Forks Central in a single game at 4:30 p.m. Crookston will host a tournament Saturday, facing East Grand Forks at 10 a.m., Mahnomen-Waubun at noon and Barnesville at 2 p.m.

In game one Roseau put up nine runs on starter Caitlyn Cournia. Crookston answered in the bottom half of the inning with seven runs and tied the game with two runs in the second inning.

The Roseau bats picked up steam again with a run in the third and nine more in the fourth as it pounded out 20 hits in the game.

Sophomore Danelle Trandem pitched 6 1/3 innings for the Pirates, allowing 12 runs on 15 hits and four walks.

Junior Carly Welter was 2-for-4, as was Desrosier, who had three RBIs with her home run.

In game two, the Pirates gave the Rams a dose of their own medicine with a nine-run third inning to take a 15-6 lead.

Roseau attempted a comeback in the seventh with five runs but came up short as it pounded out another 20 hits in the game.

Larson was 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs in the game. Trandem was also 3-for-4 with five RBIs. Junior Lizzy Awender had a double and triple with two runs scored.
