  •     In recognition of National Women’s Health Week, RiverView Health will hold its Sixth Annual Women’s Fest on May 14. The 3:30 to 6 p.m. event will be held in Heritage Hallway and Meeting Room 4 (formerly the RiverView Care Center dining room).
National Women’s Health Week, May 12-18, empowers women to make their health a top priority. It also encourages them to take steps to improve their physical and mental health and lower their risks of certain diseases.
    The schedule
RiverView Laboratory Director Pat Fall will give a presentation at 3:45 p.m. on the Direct Laboratory Access (DLA) program. DLA is offered for anyone who desires to further monitor lab values between regular healthcare provider visits. If individuals have found that their insurance or Medicare coverage does not pay for a screening test or want testing for a personal condition, Direct Lab Access may offer that option. DLA provides the opportunity to take a more active role in healthcare decisions by enabling individuals to select laboratory testing from a limited test menu. Come and check out the tests available, and determine if DLA is a match for you.
Meghan Updike, RiverView Health’s newest nurse practitioner, will give a 4:30 p.m. presentation on Heart Health in Women. Updike will talk about the prevalence of heart disease in women, how to reduce the risk of heart disease, and the importance of health screenings.
RiverView acupuncturist Megan Scott will give an informative talk and demonstration on the relaxing benefits of Tai Chi Easy at 5:15 p.m. Tai Chi is an ancient form of Chinese exercise consisting of slow, beautiful, relaxed movements that develop a sense of balance and harmony between mind and body.
Free blood pressure and blood sugar checks will be conducted. And, as always, there will be great food and door prizes.
    My New View
Women’s Fest is an annual event for RiverView Health’s free women’s membership program, My New View. Individuals that are not currently members of My New View but are interested in attending this event can enroll at Women’s Fest. Women completing a My New View membership application are asked to share basic information such as name and address, as well as a brief inventory of health interests and concerns. This information is used by RiverView Health to identify needs for health information and education, as well as medical resource development for women.
