  • The Crookston Pirate trapshooting team had its third week of competition Wednesday at the Crookston Gun Club. The team consists of 16 shooters that range from 12 to 17 years old.
"They are all pretty good. I'm actually impressed with all of them," head coach Darren Gjerswold said. "We see a difference every week. They are all very good about safety with their barrels, glasses and ear plugs."
The team had two weeks of practice starting April 10 and will finish the season June 7-9 with the state tournament in Alexandria and every participant is eligible to go.

Gjerswold said with the competitions every Wednesday it make it possible for kids with other activities to participate.
"It works out pretty good," he said. "We stay out here until the last shooter is done."
MSHSCTL has doubled in participating schools each of the last three years and now has 114 teams. Many more schools are expected to join next season.
Crookston competing in Conference 4A, ranked sixth of eight schools after week two.
