Crookston avenges a loss to Moorhead 4-3 on April 25.

The Pirate boys' tennis team seems to be improving with every match it plays and that's key with the Section 8A Team Tournament less than two weeks away.

The latest improvement came Tuesday with a 4-3 win over Moorhead, which beat Crookston 4-3 on April 25 in Crookston.

The Pirates got a pair of straight-set victories at third and fourth singles by freshmen Bobby Tiedemann and Andy Gregg, respectively.

In doubles, the Pirates got two dominant wins at first doubles from seniors Ethan Mercil and Cody Genereux and at second doubles from junior Kal Salentiny and eighth grader Matt Garmen.

Senior Travis Vatthauer lost a tight second singles match.

Crookston is 7-5 in duals this season and will travel to East Grand Forks for a dual Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
