  •     A police pursuit early Tuesday morning in Crookston ended with a crash, the suspect being treated at RiverView Hospital and released, and then booked at the Northwest Regional Corrections Center.
The driver, identified as Carlos Ismael Garcia, 29, is being held for fleeing police in a motor vehicle. Additional charges are pending.
According to Crookston Police Chief Tim Motherway, an officer responding to a suspicious person call a few minutes before 3 a.m. attempted to stop a vehicle on University Avenue. The officer activated his red lights and siren but the vehicle wouldn’t stop. The vehicle subsequently traveled down West 6th Street, to Main and then to North Main. The report states that Garcia at that time was traveling at normal speed.
On West 2nd Street, however, according to the CPD, Garcia rapidly accelerated and turned onto North Broadway, eventually driving through the five-way stop and turning westbound onto Fisher Avenue at a high rate of speed. Eventually, at the intersection of North Front Street and West 7th Street, Garcia lost control of the vehicle and crashed.
According to the report, the driver at that point exited the vehicle and ran with officers in pursuit. He was subsequently caught and taken into custody on the hill near Taco John’s.
Crookston Area Ambulance personnel were called to the scene because Garcia was drifting in and out of consciousness. He was transported to RiverView for treatment and then was taken to jail.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office also assisted.
