Scott Fisketjon of Crookston is treated and released after crash on North Broadway.
Scott Mark Fisketjon, 33, of Crookston was treated at RiverView Hospital and released Thursday after, according to Crookston Police, he fell asleep while driving a 2001 Buick LeSabre north on North Broadway.
According to the CPD, Fisketjon sideswiped a Kia SUV on the hill between 6th and 7th streets, accelerated up the hill, crossed the center line, and struck a fire hydrant and power pole before coming to rest against a tree at the 8th Street intersection, across from Ceason’s Bait & Tackle.
The CPD received the call at 9:39 a.m. Upon arrival, they saw water coming out from where the fire hydrant was, the snapped power pole lying across the top of the Buick, and Fisketjon lying on the sidewalk receiving aid from witnesses. The witnesses reported that he was unconscious behind the wheel when they approached, and that he woke up while they were trying to help him out of the vehicle. He then collapsed on the sidewalk.
According to the CPD, Fisketjon said he’d been driving for several hours and fell asleep. An investigation found no sign of alcohol or drugs. Fisketjon is being charged with careless driving.
The police were assisted by the Crookston Fire Department, Crookston Area Ambulance Service, city public works and Otter Tail Power Company personnel at the scene.
