Authorities received a call Sunday morning from a woman who said an unknown man had broken into her home.
Grand Forks police say a man was taken into custody after a standoff that lasted several hours in the eastern North Dakota city.
Police Lt. Mike Ferguson tells the Grand Forks Herald (http://bit.ly/14CFPgm ) authorities received a call Sunday morning from a woman who said an unknown man had broken into her home. Officers noticed smoke coming from the house.
Once authorities learned the man could be armed, nearby Hope church and Bethel Lutheran Church were evacuated. Ferguson says the man left the residence and was taken into custody after several hours of negotiation.
The Grand Forks Fire Department extinguished the fire inside the residence.
Authorities say the man was taken to a hospital. They say the case is under investigation.
