A smoky fire at a grocery and deli store in south Minneapolis interrupted some services at neighboring Children's Hospital and activated some of its smoke alarms.
Fire broke out at the Chicago Avenue Food and Deli about 3 a.m. Thursday. Fire officials say the hospital was forced to close its intake and ventilation system because of the wafting smoke.
Children's temporarily closed its outpatient clinic and delayed elective surgery, radiology and lab services. Hospital spokeswoman Katie Heinze says crews are cleaning smoke and residue in some areas of the hospital and the air quality is being monitored.
Heinze says no patients or staff members were harmed.
Firefighters had the fire under control by about 7 a.m.
