  • Boys' tennis: Moorhead sneaks past Crookston 4-3

  • The Pirate boys' tennis team suffered a tough defeat Thursday, 4-3 to Moorhead in Crookston.
    The Spuds won the top three singles spots in straight sets, while Crookston eighth grader Matt Garmen pulled out a very tight three-set victory at fourth singles.
    Seniors Ethan Mercil and Sean Williams easily won at first doubles, while junior Kal Salentiny and freshman Jacob Roesch won a close two setter.
    Moorhead also won at third doubles against a pair of Crookston freshmen, Elijah Phaiah and Eric Sullivan.
    The loss drops Crookston to 3-4 on the season. The Pirates will host Detroit Lakes and Wadena-Deer Creek Tuesday, April 30, beginning at 1 p.m.
