Jake Sanders, a CHS and UMC grad, is fundraising to play pro golf.

CHS grad and former Minnesota Crookston golfer Jake Sanders will compete on the Dakotas Tour this summer, but he needs help.

To make this happen Sanders, 24, invites you to become one of "Sandies Dandies."

What's a Sandy Dandy?

"Sandies Dandies is a fan club that will be made up of people that are willing to help Jake Sanders financially as he seeks to begin his career as a professional golfer and evaluate his true potential for playing golf at the highest level," the fan club's website explains.

Sanders, a two-time Ernotte Hiller Memorial Labor Day Golf Tournament champion and an assistant coach for the Pirate girls' hockey team, plans to play in his first Dakotas Tour tournament June 29-30 at The Bluffs South Dakota Open in Vermillion, S.D.

Sanders hopes to play in 12 to 14 of the tour's 16 events.

“Sandy” said he talked with Travis Ross, who played one season on the Dakotas Tour.

"He was very supportive and gave me good insight on the tour and how things work," Sanders said.

Sandies Dandies has raised approximately $4,600 with a goal of $20,000.

Sanders said none of this would be possible without the help from Scott Lindgren of Marathon Fundraisers in Grand Forks.

"I just want to say that I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to play golf professionally," Sanders said. "I have had a lot of support from family, friends and Crookstonites to pursue golf at a higher level. I want to thank everyone for their support and ask people to spread the word!”
