Crookston was missing a number of players, who are on the music trip.

Despite a large number of Pirates on the Florida music trip, the Pirate boys' tennis team swept the singles and defeated Detroit Lakes 5-2 Tuesday at Courts Plus Fitness Center in Fargo.

Five eighth graders and two freshman of ten players made up the Crookston lineup.

Senior Ethan Mercil, junior Kal Salentiny and eighth grader Matt Garmen each won in straight sets at one, two and three singles, respectively. Eighth grader Jake Widseth won at four singles in a tiebreaker for the third set.

Freshman Jordan Bengston and eighth grader Mitchell Olson got Crookston's other win at two doubles.

The Pirates will take on Thief River Falls Monday, April 22 at Choice Health & Fitness in Grand Forks, beginning at 10 a.m.
