Matthew Powers was in Williston's Municipal Court facing misdemeanor theft charges Monday when he exited through a door of the law enforcement center's lower level.

A 21-year-old inmate briefly escaped police custody while in court and ran several blocks wearing his black-and-white-striped prison garb before being recaptured.

Matthew Powers was in Williston's Municipal Court facing misdemeanor theft charges Monday when he exited through a door of the law enforcement center's lower level.

Detective David Peterson tells the Williston Herald (http://bit.ly/1119EB2 ) that Powers was recaptured at a home at 9th and Main streets within minutes.

Powers now faces a charge of escaping custody.
