The Minnesota Crookston softball team rallied back to narrowly fall 5-4 in game one against Southwest Minnesota State Sunday. In game two, the Golden Eagles would fall 10-0 in five innings to the Mustangs. The Golden Eagles drop to 2-25 (1-15 NSIC) with the pair of losses. Southwest Minnesota State improves to 13-13 (6-8 NSIC) with Sunday’s wins. The games were played at the Morningside Little League Complex in Sioux City, Iowa after playing conditions were deemed unplayable in Marshall, Minn.
Paige Schaust (Jr., OF/P, Delano, Minn.) got the start in game one against the Mustangs and went six innings, giving up five runs, four of them earned, on 12 hits. Schaust would get the loss on the game to fall to 1-11 on the season.
Wiedmaier, Rivera, Khoshaba and Hollinger would each have two hits apiece in game one.
Groff would get the win for the Mustangs after coming on in relief and giving up four runs, two of them earned, on nine hits in five innings pitched.
Stacey Marcum (Sr., P, Merrill, Wis.) would get the start in game two for the Golden Eagles and would go three innings, giving up six runs, five of them earned, on just one hit but would have eight walks, three wild pitches and two hit batters as she struggled with control and got the loss in game two.
Katie Herron would get the game two win for Southwest Minnesota State after pitching a five-inning shutout, giving up just three hits.
The Golden Eagles will return to action today with a pair of games against Sioux Falls. The games will commence at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Morningside Little League Complex in Sioux City, Iowa.
