The Golden Eagles had a school-record six riders participate in the Zone Championships.
The Minnesota Crookston hunt seat equestrian team finished the 2012-13 season with a strong performance at the Zone Championships at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas. The Zone Championship featured the top two riders from each of the five regions in Zone 7 coming together to compete for the top two spots to move on to nationals. Zone 7 consists of 45 schools.
The Golden Eagles had a school-record six riders participate in the Zone Championships. Hannah Nedrud (Jr., St. Louis Park, Minn.) had the best showing of any UMC rider placing third in Walk Trot Canter. Paige Clark (Fr., Andover, Minn.) finished in fifth place in Walk Trot. Annalee Sundin (Jr., Deer River, Minn.) parlayed a successful ride into a sixth place finish in Walk Trot Canter. Sable Bettencourt (Fr., Cloquet, Minn.) placed sixth in Novice Equitation on the Flat while Denise Thompson (Jr., Rochester, N.Y.) took eighth. Jessica Charles (Sr., Belgrade Lakes, Maine) placed 10th for Intermediate Equitation Over Fences and 10th for Intermediate Equitation on the Flat.
“I was extremely impressed with the quality of riding that was shown out there this weekend,” said head coach Brooke Leininger. “We were at the top of our game and competed well. I couldn’t be more pleased with how they rode. This was a great conclusion to our season.”
Since none of UMC’s riders placed in the top two in their divisions none of the Golden Eagle riders advanced to the National Championships thus ending the 2013 season.
