The University of Minnesota Crookston softball would succumb to strong pitching and hitting from Wayne State College (Neb.) as they fell 11-0 in a pair of games Sunday at the Pete Chapman Baseball and Softball Complex in Wayne, Neb. The Golden Eagles are now 2-21 (1-11 NSIC) on the season while Wayne State improves to 20-6 (11-1 NSIC) and now sits at the top of the NSIC softball standings.
Paige Schaust (Jr., OF/P, Delano, Minn.) got the start in game one for the Golden Eagles in the circle. Schaust would go 5.1 innings, giving up nine runs, six of them earned, on seven hits. Schaust would suffer the loss to fall to 1-9 as UMC fell 11-0 in game one.
Hilary Brown (Sr., OF, Mosinee, Wis.) led UMC in game one, accounting for two of the Golden Eagles’ three hits in the game.
Bormann would pick up the win for Wayne State in the circle, pitching a six-inning shutout and only allowing three hits.
In game two, Ciara Rivera (Fr., IF/P, Rosemount, Minn.) would get the ball for the Golden Eagles. Rivera would get the loss after giving up eight runs, none of them earned, on six hits in the first inning. Rivera falls to 0-3.
Sara Scheffert got the game two win for the Wildcats after pitching a one-hit shutout in five innings to improve to 10-3.
UMC’s one hit in game two came from Courtney Bridge (So., SS, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia).
The Golden Eagles are scheduled to return to action Wednesday against St. Cloud State in St. Cloud, Minn. They will play weekend games on the road versus Southwest Minnesota State Saturday and against Sioux Falls Sunday.
