If you're a faithful reader of the Times' sports page you've noticed the spring sports stories have been few and far between. Obviously that's due to all the remaining snow on the ground and bitter cold temperatures.
This was the week the spring sports were to get underway with all the sports but golf and track scheduled for events. Instead, this is the week for postponements.
Baseball officially postponed its first three games of the season and is set to face Thief River Falls in a doubleheader at Minnetonka. Softball has had its first three games postponed and is next scheduled to host a tournament on April 20.
Girls' golf has postponed the Crookston Quadrangular on Friday, while boys' golf's Crookston Invitational on April 15 does not look promising whatsoever.
Boys' tennis was able to get in three duals in Duluth on March 30 but its home opening dual against Bemidji for Tuesday was postponed. It is next scheduled to face Detroit Lakes on April 15 on the road.
Track and field has had three indoor meets but it's outdoor opener in Park Rapids on April 16 has been cancelled. It is next scheduled to compete in Bemidji on April 19.
With snow still blanketing the ground and cold temperatures not going anywhere soon, and given the fact that the spring sports season is already short to begin with, the postponements and cancellations will continue to pile up.
