The Minnesota Crookston battled in a pair of games versus 2012 NCAA Softball Tournament Participant Augustana College (S.D.) but fell 6-1 and 7-5 Saturday at Bowden Field in Sioux Falls, S.D. The games were technically UMC’s home games as they were scheduled to take place at the UMC Softball Field in Crookston, Minn., but were moved to Sioux Falls due to poor field conditions.
The Golden Eagles were trailing just 3-1 going into the seventh inning of game one, while they held a 4-3 advantage going into the fifth inning of game two against the Vikings. UMC falls to 2-19 (1-9 NSIC) on the season while Augustana improves to 19-8 (6-4 NSIC).
Paige Schaust (Jr., OF/P, Delano, Minn.) would get the start in game one for the Golden Eagles. Schaust would pitch seven innings, giving up six runs, only three of them earned, on 12 hits. Schaust falls to 1-8 on the season with the loss.
Schaust led the Golden Eagles from the plate in game one, going 2-for-4 with one run batted in, while Alexis Khoshaba (Fr., OF/1B, Richmond, British Columbia) was 2-for-3 for the game.
Augustana was paced by McMahon, who was 2-for-3 with one run scored and two RBI’s. Trautmann would get the win in game one to improve to 17-5 after giving up one earned run on eight hits.
Ciara Rivera would make just her seventh appearance of the season as she got the ball in game two against the Vikings. Rivera would go six innings, giving up seven runs, six of them earned, on eight hits. Rivera would fall to 0-2 with the game two loss.
Trautmann would also get the game two start for the Vikings and would go two innings, giving up four earned runs on three hits. Pickett would get the win in game two for Augustana after going five innings and giving up no earned runs on two hits.
Wiedmaier led the UMC bats in game two, going 1-for-4 with one run scored and three RBI’s. The Viking bats were paced by Spanton, who was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBI’s.
