United Way thermometer downtown now gauges splash park progress.
Crookston, it's time to make a splash! On Friday, the United Way fundraiser thermometer outside American Federal Bank was converted into a measuring tool for funds collected toward the construction of the Crookston Splash Park.
According to Shirley Iverson, one of the cause's champions, the goal is to raise $195,000. "We have donations and pledges of $19,500 so far. A local business has challenged other businesses in the area to match their $4,000 pledge. Also, Karen and Rodd Wagner have pledged $2,000 and challenge other area farmers to match their contribution."
The Crookston Splash Park Committee was submitted numerous grant requests, are making presentations to groups for their endorsement of the project and continue to seek donations. Thus far, their public fundraiser has been the Noon Day Lions Tailgate event, which resulted in a $1,000 donation.
Additional fundraisers are in the works. Keep abreast of what is happening by following the Crookston Splash Park page on Facebook and checking local media for upcoming announcements.
