The Minnesota Crookston baseball team fell 7-1 and 10-0 in a mid-week Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheader against St. Cloud State Tuesday at Mall of America Field at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.
The Golden Eagles fall to 0-23 (0-10 NSIC) with the pair of losses. St. Cloud State improves to 17-2 (15-2 NSIC) with the pair of victories.
The early-morning doubleheader got under way at 6:30 a.m. from the Metrodome with game two commencing at 8 a.m. Tuesday’s games mark the 13th and 14th games respectively that UMC has played at the Metrodome due mostly to the weather in the region this winter.
Richie Navratil (So., P, Blansko, Czech Republic) got the start in game one against the Huskies and would go four innings, giving up seven earned runs on seven hits against the Huskies. Navratil falls to 0-3 with Tuesday’s game one loss.
Scott Lieser would get the victory for St. Cloud State after going five innings, giving up one earned run on three hits with three strikeouts.
Jordan Prill (Sr., 1B/OF/P, Melrose, Minn.) led the team going 2-for-3 on the game while St. Cloud State was led by Eric Loxtercamp, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI’s and one run scored, and Jurgella, who was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI’s.
Haggstrom would get the start on the mound in game two against St. Cloud State. The freshman would pitch a shutout through three innings until the Huskies finally got to him for three runs in the fourth inning. Haggstrom would pitch 3.2 innings, giving up just five hits and three earned runs.
Garrett Anderson from St. Cloud State would get the win to improve to 1-0 after going three innings and giving up just one hit. Nick Maiers would come on in relief and go four innings, giving up just one hit.
J.C. Crane (Sr., C/OF/P, Tucson, Ariz.) and Jesse Jennings (So., IF/OF, Robbinsdale, Minn.) would get the two hits for the Golden Eagles.
UMC is scheduled to play homes games against Northern State on April 6 and 7 in Crookston. Coach Chris Vito is currently looking to move those games to an alternate site due to the snow that still is on the UMC Baseball Field. More details will come on the status of those games as it comes to light.
