We'll do our best to make Crookston proud.

The Crookston High School Music Department will be taking another trip to Disney World this year.

The 9-12th graders in band, choir, and orchestra have been saving up for this trip for a long while to cover the $1,800 cost of the plane tickets, hotel accommodations, and meal vouchers.  The students have paid for their expenses themselves by selling frozen foods and fundraising throughout the years prior to the trip.

The 156 band, choir, and orchestra members along with 20 chaperones will leave early Friday, April 12 from Grand Forks International Airport and will have their own non-stop flight down to Sanford-Orlando Airport.  Upon arrival they will check in to the Disney All-Star Music Resort.  While in Orlando, the music students will be ushered to various parks to march, perform, or sing.  They will experience and see many things like Shamu, the Killer Whale, the Magic Kingdom, the Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Epcot Center, Hollywood Studios and Universal Studios.  The band members will attend performances by the orchestra and choir at the Waterside Stage in Downtown Disney.

The students and chaperones will see the “Spectro-Magic Parade”, which is an electrifying nighttime parade which leads to the spectacular “Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks”.  The groups will also enjoy “Illuminations: Reflections of the Earth”. This is an exciting fireworks, laser, and water show atop of the World Showcase Lagoon.  “Fantasmic” is an incredible nighttime show combining lasers, pyrotechnics, animations and special effects synchronized to favorite classic Disney melodies that the Crookston students will see.

At the parks, students will be able to use a “fast pass” if lines get too long, which will allow them to “reserve” a spot in line at a ride, thus freeing them to enjoy other things while waiting.  An option for students on a rainy day is Disney’s park hopper passes, which allows students to leave and reenter any park or section of Disneyworld.

Some things I am looking forward to while at Disney are marching with the band and seeing the orchestra and choir perform.  The day we leave for Florida, having to wake up around 4:00 o’clock in the morning in order to be at school early to leave Crookston to Grand Forks for the 7:30 A.M. flight to Orlando will not seem like fun, but we can catch up on sleep on the way.  We will need it to march at Magic Kingdom, playing our hardest and doing our best as we represent our town of Crookston, Minnesota.

I am hoping and praying for nice, sunny weather but personally not too hot.  It can get pretty warm under the collar of those marching uniforms; mixed with the pressure and nervousness of sounding the best and looking our best can really do a number on you.

We will depart Disney on April 17 for home. My biggest wish is that it doesn’t rain on our parade!
