The Minnesota Crookston men’s golf team is in eighth place out of nine competing teams after the first round of the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions Classic at the Hardscrabble Country Club in Fort Smith, Ark.
The Golden Eagles have been led by sophomore Matt McClure (Grand Rapids, Minn.), who is in eighth place and four shots off the lead after the first round after shooting a +4, 74 in the first round. The Golden Eagles had to battle frigid temps as it was in the mid 30’s during the first round of play.
In addition to McClure, sophomore Jesse Roscoe (Big Stone City, S.D.) shot a 76 in the first round and is tied for 13th overall. Sophomore Blake Held (Cold Spring, Minn.), who rejoined the team at semester after taking a year off shot an 84 and is in a tie for 43rd. Michael Roedl (R-Fr., Minneapolis, Minn.) shot an 85 and is in a tie for 46th place. Sophomore Seth Heppner (Crookston, Minn.) rounded out the Golden Eagle competitors shooting a 90 in the opening round.
Greyden Blevins of Southeast Oklahoma State is in the player lead after shooting an even-par 70 in the first round while Newman University is in the team lead for the tournament.
Play will continue at the Lions Classic today.
