  • Police in North Dakota's largest city say their investment in a pair of $800 graffiti sensors appears to be paying off.
Fargo police have been using the sensors since 2010, installing them in areas that are common targets for graffiti. The sensors detect fumes from spray paint and alert authorities.
Lt. Joel Vettel tells The Forum newspaper (http://bit.ly/16cEhaa ) that eight people were charged with graffiti offenses last year, and all the cases involved multiple violations.
Vettel says cameras installed near graffiti-prone areas also are helping cut down on the crime.
